Things to do in Amorgos
Amorgos sits at the far eastern edge of the Cyclades, reached from Santorini by ferry out of Athinios in roughly two to three hours depending on the boat, longer than the hop to Ios or Folegandros. It is long and narrow, with a rugged limestone spine that keeps development thin: two small ports, Katapola and Aegiali, and a scattering of hill villages rather than a resort strip.
The clifftop monastery of Hozoviotissa, built into the rock face around the 11th century, is the one sight most visitors plan a day around. This part of the Aegean was in the news in early 2025, when a seismic swarm developed between Santorini and Amorgos; it ran for about forty days, produced tens of thousands of small quakes, and ended without an eruption.
It is over, not a reason to change plans now.
