Things to do at Athinios Port

Athinios is the island's only ferry port, handling every arrival and departure to and from Piraeus, the Cyclades, Crete and Rhodes. There is no train station, no left-luggage counter, and only a short strip of cafes and ticket kiosks at the quay.

The port sits at the foot of the caldera cliff on the west coast, reached by a steep switchback road with no pavement in places, and traffic backs up hard whenever a large ferry unloads its cars and coaches. Fira is about 15-20 minutes away by road.

Because taxis on the island number only around thirty, arrange a transfer or check your hotel's shuttle before you land, especially for a fast ferry that docks in the evening.
