Things to do in Megalochori

Megalochori sits inland in the Pyrgos wine district, away from the caldera cliff, so there is no sea view here and no sunset crowd like Oia or Imerovigli - come for a quiet walk through narrow lanes instead. It has no signposted monument, unlike nearby Pyrgos with its kastro viewpoint, which keeps it off most day-trip itineraries.

Taxis are scarce across Santorini, only around thirty for the whole island, so getting here without a rental car usually means the KTEL bus from Fira and a short walk from the stop, or a pre-booked transfer. Winery visits nearby are a separate trip, not part of what this village offers on its own.

Plan an hour or so, ideally in the low light of early morning or early evening when the streets are empty.
