Things to do at Red Beach

Red Beach (Kokkini Ammos) sits below Akrotiri, a short walk from the archaeological site, and gets its colour from the red-and-black cliffs of volcanic ash rising above the shoreline.

Rockfalls in 2018, 2023 and December 2025 have repeatedly closed the cliff path, and access remained partially restricted in 2026, so check current conditions before you plan a visit rather than assuming the trail is open.

Many boat trips along the Akrotiri coast include a stop offshore instead, which avoids the path question entirely. The sand and pebbles are volcanic and heat up fast under the midday sun, so bring shoes you can walk in, not just sandals for lying down.
