Things to do in Sifnos

Sifnos sits among the western Cyclades reached from Santorini by fast ferry out of Athinios, alongside Milos, Folegandros and Amorgos, with crossing times that vary by operator and boat rather than a fixed schedule. Expect the trip itself, not the island, to take up most of a day trip.

Once there, the appeal is villages rather than headline sights: Kastro's stone lanes built into the cliff, Apollonia's whitewashed centre, and Chrysopigi monastery on its own rock at the sea's edge. Sifnos is also known in Greece for pottery and for a cooking tradition built on slow-baked clay pots, so a meal built around revithada or mastelo is as much the point as any beach.

This page covers Sifnos itself; it does not cover Milos or the Kleftiko and Sarakiniko coastline, which sit on a separate island-hopping route from Santorini.
