Things to do in Naxos

Naxos sits in the central Cyclades, roughly an hour and a half by fast ferry from Athinios on Santorini - further out than Ios, and a stop before Paros and Mykonos on the same route, though the crossing time shifts with the company and the boat you book.

It is the largest of the Cyclades, with mountain villages, marble quarries and long sandy beaches that reward a stay of several days rather than a single-day hop from Santorini. This page covers Naxos on its own terms, not Paros, Naoussa, Antiparos, Mykonos or Delos, each handled separately, nor the smaller islands closer to Santorini such as Ios, Folegandros or Amorgos.

Expect a car or scooter to be genuinely useful here, since the interior villages and the best beaches lie well beyond walking distance from Naxos Town.
